On July 26, 2024, Green Bay Packers offered a four-year, $220 million contract extension to its major quarterbacks: Jordan Love. The contract gave Love an average of $55 million per year, which is one of the biggest figures in NFL league.
In 2023, Love finished the season with the second most touchdown passes (32), 4159 yards in passing, ranking at 7, and 11th in passer rating (96.1). He became the leader of Packers and dragged the team into postseason games, where he provided a perfect performance against the Dallas Cowboys and smashed his opponents. he missed on just five of his 21 passes to finish with 272 yards, three touchdowns and a 157.2 passer rating. He protected the ball as he had throughout his torrid finish to the campaign. His efforts and great contribution to Packers were the reasons for the contract extension.
However, there are uncertainties for this contract signing. Nine games into 2023 season, Love struggled with only 2009 passing yards, 14 touchdown passes, and 10 interceptions with an only 80.5 passer rating and below 60% completion percentage (58.7%). For subsequent post season after winning Cowboys, Love shew alarming glimpses of early-season version of himself against San Francisco 49ers, throwing for 192 yards, which had been his lowest number since Week 6.
But Packers took these setbacks and dissepiment as a learning path for Jordan Love, and they indeed see Love’s championship traits.
If Love goes on proving that he’s who Packers think he is, the Packers will further extend the contract with Love as a promising franchise quarterback in the long term.
